Home

Where is your home? Are you a bit like Paul Young and where you rest will do? Or is home something fixed and permanent, a place or a person maybe? Do you have more than one home? Your childhood home and your own little safe place? As an immigrant I find the idea of home especially powerful, and watching this concept develop in my child moving and fascinating. When we travelled to the UK six months ago, my motherland - one of my ‘homes’, my sweet little lad did not seem to miss ‘our home’. I did try not to talk about his Dad unless we were just about to call or Skype him, but he did not talk about home, and took the whole trip in short little stride.  A dummy, his trusted, internationally travelled and slightly grey stuffed toy – Cat’s Monkey, and me were enough for him at that stage in his life.
